Exporting to Macromedia Flash

You can export Fireworks paths to Macromedia Flash for use in Flash graphics or animations on your Web site.

Note: To export a Fireworks path that contains no bitmap characteristics, copy and paste the vector path into Flash using Edit > Copy as Paths.

Some formatting is lost unless you choose Maintain Appearance in the Flash SWF Export Options dialog box. Stroke size and stroke color are maintained.

Formatting lost during export includes:

Live Effects
Opacity and blending modes (Objects with opacity become symbols with an alpha channel.)
Mask groups
Slice objects, image maps, and behaviors (For example, rollovers are lost.)
Some text formatting options, such as kerning and bitmap strokes
Feather edges
Layers
Anti-aliasing on objects (The Flash player applies anti-aliasing at the document level. Therefore, anti-aliasing is applied to the document when you export.)

When exporting to Flash, you can make several choices about how objects are exported.

To export a graphic to Flash:

1 Choose File > Export Special > Flash SWF.
2 To choose how to export objects, click the Setup button.
3 To maintain the document's appearance, choose either or both options:
Choose Objects: Maintain Appearance to convert path objects to image objects and preserve the appearance of applied strokes and fills.
Choose Text: Convert to Paths to convert text to paths, preserving any custom kerning or spacing you entered in Fireworks.
4 Choose Objects: Maintain Paths and Text: Maintain Editability to maintain path editability.
5 Click OK and finish exporting.
